if you can get a backup of the old site, there is hope.
you could set up the old site in its own folder on your new server.
you could close the forums in it permanently and use it as an archive.
Yeah we tried like hell to get the DB but to no avail.
i see the forum is looking strikingly similar to the old. familiarity is great.
i am sure you are operating a PHP based server. include facebook logging in. it is not mandatory is chosen, but you will widely expand the audience going into social media.
i work with Drupal a lot and can testify to how powerful facebook interraction with a website really is. not only does it begin to eliminate a website trying to reinvent the wheel (blogs, social media, etc.) it becomes friendly to new users who are already used to FB log-in’s.
I have created my own App pages for facebook interaction – it’s simple, effective, and seemlessly incorporates to your website.
